Finding Your Male-Female Balance

I had an interesting session with a client a few weeks ago where we explored the feminine and masculine balance of energy that exists in each of us.

Our session got me thinking about how important it is to align and balance our internal masculine and feminine elements.

Your masculine-feminine energy balance has nothing to do with your sexual orientation or your gender; rather, each of us internally has this interplay of masculine and feminine energy - the yin and yang -  and we must harness both in our daily lives to be successful.

Masculine vs. Feminine

Let's define these energies. It is the masculine energy that supports us in pursuing our goals, taking action, and implementing our plans to get what we want when we remain steadfast about it.

On the other hand, our feminine energy allows us to create, dream, attract what we want, see the big picture, collaborate with others, and build communities through listening, sharing, and nurturing.

The masculine is the stronger, more forceful energy while the female counterpart embraces ‘allowing’ things to happen naturally and organically, and flowing with it.

When we can balance the two energies within us, we feel confident, inspiring waves of creativity and inspiration, power and wisdom, and peace and love to surface within us. Conversely, when our masculine-feminine equation gets thrown out of balance, our emotional and physical well-being gets thrown out of whack.

When our masculine energy is too dominant, we are likely to experience feelings of not being appreciated, feeling undervalued, or unlovable. We become physically tired and show signs of stress or burnout because we are trying too hard, or pushing too much without seeing the hint of success that keeps us motivated.

When our feminine energy dominates, we can feel like we are all over the place, easily triggered, unfocused, and irritated. We start to doubt and question ourselves, disappointed by the fact that our lives lack direction or purpose, feeling hopeless because the success we seek is way beyond our reach.

Finding Balance

So what would that look like if we could pull ourselves together and reach that point of equilibrium where our masculine and feminine energies learn to interface with each other?

As a woman, you would allow your masculine energy to support your inner female, so you can feel safe. You become more feminine, softer, more open, gentle, and trusting.  You feel more comfortable to be vulnerable with others because you have the internal strength - your masculine energy that is - to protect you.

You aren’t afraid of being hurt, rejected, disappointed, or unloved. You don’t give anyone else that power over your life. You recognize if someone does something negative to you, it’s their issue and not yours.

You stop taking things personally and you no longer feel like the victim. You are empowered and ready to walk away from situations where you are not respected. Your male aspect would never let you stay.

A balanced man would be comfortable expressing his emotions, open to communication, and he’d stop pressuring himself to have everything figured out. That’s the type of man you’d want to find and will probably attract if you have your energies in alignment too.

If you as a woman start to balance your inner masculine and feminine energies, you’ll notice that the men around you start to do the same thing, rebalancing their own energies to keep up with you. And vice versa, of course, for a man. That is the effect we can have on our partners and the people around us that we most interact with.

But the cherry on top is that you stop looking towards a man to fulfill you or complete you, because you can give yourself what you need. This way you are less likely to feel disappointed by the men around you who cannot meet your expectations. Nor do you give them any power over your life to leave you broken or disappointed, because you know that it is always your choice to decide what you will or will not tolerate from others.

Restoring Harmony

In relationships where one partner keeps expecting something from a partner who is unable to deliver, there is conflict and discord that gets created. Which leads to breakdowns in communication, a lack of harmony, and a growing leaderboard of resentment and grudges. It becomes harder and harder to let that go over time.

This is why it is crucial that we find our inner masculine-feminine balance in order to restore harmony in the male-to-female partnerships we are in outside of us.

The Buddhist and Hindu Tantric traditions recognize that masculine energy is incomplete without the feminine, just as feminine energy needs the strength of the male energy. Marrying the two, masculine and feminine, can help you to get back into alignment, feeling powerfully centered, strong, and optimistic, which gets mirrored out into your external relationships.

Rebalancing Your Energy
